June 17 & 18, York

After I posted the last blog in London, I noticed that I was running on low ipod battery, so I reached into my bag for the appropriate adapters... to discover that I had left half of the adapter back in Toronto! It was 5pm and I needed to catch a 7pm train. I quickly googled 'apple stores' in London and found one at the intersection of reagent & oxford st, one of the busiest downtown areas. I left the hostel and embarked on my first bike - riding in rush hour traffic in London. Getting to Oxford circus, you experience about ten times more people than in the busiest area of Chicago- bodies crushing against you as I maneuvered my bike to the apple store. I quickly bought a second adapter set, so I'm still set for the trip. I luckily made it to the station in time after fighting more traffic (you have to be fearless!) and had a lovely 2h train ride to York. Dana met me at the station with her friend Paul & we finished the night very low key which was exactly what I needed. Dana seems utterly at home here. Today, I didn't have any more 'surprises' and spent much time figuring out hostels, trains, & boat tickets for the couple weeks- nothing too exciting but gives peace of mind. We capped the evening off with a dinner of bangers and mash at the Old White Swan and drinks at the Evil Eye -fun times! Thanks to Dana and Paul for being such wonderful hosts! Dana and I have more touristy stuff planned tomorrow and we have trains to catch to Scotland. Next, I'll be writing from Glasgow - until then, stay warm! (unlike me!)

  1. If that's all you forgot, you're doing alright, lassy. And now you have a circus act!
